Well, here we go. The “official” first beer review here on TheBrewClub.com!
It is worth mentioning that I am not a huge fan of Lager style beers. From time-to-time, I will enjoy one, but the style is simply not my favorite. That being said, I’ll do my best to give LandShark Lager a fair shake!
Let me start with the packaging – I really like the way this beer looked – golden yellow – in a perfectly clear bottle. Looks like it would be “light” and “refreshing”, and I do like the Florida kind of “feel” the labeling has with the shark fins and all. You could almost imagine yourself hanging out on a beach or something enjoying one of these LandShark beers.

So far so good, except I could not help but think of a Corona beer in its overall look. Clear bottle, the bottle shape, the color of the beer. Maybe its just me, but it seems a little too similar in that regard. Whatever.
I opened my Landshark sample and it was rather uneventful with a little “pppppt” sound and that was that. I don’t have the best nose in the world for picking up scent, but to me, the LandShark smelled like any typical lager. Nothing special – no offense to the “typical lager” crowd!
The Landshark poured nicely – no fuss, and it created a light-yellow foamy head, not big at all as might be expected from this kind of beer. It wasn’t overly bubbly or fizzy – rather serious as compared to its fun label!
I tried it, and as I mentioned before, this is not my favorite type of beer to drink. I had a few sips, dwelled a little on the first taste impressions, and then finished the rest of the glass while my burgers were cooking on the grill.
The LandShark beer tasted to me, like a Bud. It had a little sting to it, but not a burning sensation or anything unpleasant. It went down smoothly, but overall it wasn’t overly satisfying or interesting to me. I felt like I’ve had it before – even though I had not.
Landshark Lager is not something I would probably purchase again, not that there was anything particularly bad about it, it just didn’t seem to be anything special. ‘Typical” might be the best way to describe it, but sometimes that’s all you need!
Rating:

Good read. But I do enjoy a Bud and the Landshark is so much smoother then Bud. I will most likely purchase the beer again being partial to this and the exspensive
german brews.
I really liked the “Landshark” considering about the only beer i drink is bud. I wont drink any miller products(just taste bad)or wont drink budlight. My wife ordered a landshark at a pizza resturaunt I took a drink and liked it! bought 2 12 packs of it 2day. I may switch from bud!! although i cant find any info on the beer itself (like proof or where they get their hops from).
Good beer for the south, the north thinks this beer sucks but they are use to the dirty river water from where the factories pollute the water. I like it and I am suprised that Bud makes it because Bud gives me a slamming headache and this beer doesn’t, whole different mixing.
True about the north thinking this beer sucks, Rory. I’m from the North and yes I think this beer sucks. It’s hardly even beer, tastes like half beer half water, kind of like Bud Light with slightly more beer flavor. I guess a decent party beer for kids, but not much more than that. 1.5 out of 10
Funny looking back on my first beer review! I haven’t had another Landshark since then, and I doubt I ever will. North or South, I think I was pretty generous with my rating at the time!
.-= Scott-TheBrewClub´s last blog ..Did someone mention goats? =-.
Agreed! This beer sucks no matter where you are on the map. Your one star rating was much too generous.
@Melvin – thanks. Being my first beer review ever, I suppose I was going a little easy! If I were to have reviewed this beer now, it would likely get a much lower rating!
Lank Shark is my favorite beer bar none! Its not too light like a bud light or too bitter like all other beers and the best thing is you can drink a six pack and feel good and not bloated and sick like with most other beers. Cant believe AB makes this stuff cause i hate all their other beers.
Thanks for the comment Joel! I can’t say I have the same enthusiasm about Land Shark that you do, but I can say that I’m happy that you enjoy it. Which is what this is all about, really!
What type of Hops are used in Landshark?? I’m home-brewing and I like this beer a lot. I’m curious about the type of hops they use here.
@Chris – I didn’t think they used ANY hops in Landshark! LOL! J/K, seriously I don’t know. I ask around for some best guesses and get back. Cheers!
LOL. Okay, that’s fair. I just like the clean and crispness of the beer and I am trying to find something. I would appreciate any info on that if you find out.
@Chris – Here’s what one homebrewer suggested regarding your situation.
“I would probably go with a mild German hop like hallertau. They’re pretty common in lagers, though any noble hop would do.”
Bought a six pack because of its name. Drank one because I love beer. Gave the other 5 away because it really, really, really sucks. (Yes, I’m north of the Mason-Dixon line.)
@Stella – Oh well. To bad you didn’t find this review first! (Hopefully, your friends still talk to you tomorrow!)
This beer is me and my wife’s preferred beer. We have found that Landshark is perfect on a hot day (it refreshes, doesn’t sit in your stomach like you just drank a pork chop), and it seems to compliment food very well. Everything from pizza to sautees with fish in them. This beer is not for the bitter beer lovers, but it is way better than Corona or Dos Equis. If you like to eat while enjoying a beer then this one is awesome.
