One more thing... AS Bock is not actually a Spring beer per se, but more of a celebration of the "coming of Spring." It coincides more with the winter Lenten season and ending with Easter. Bock beer is associated with Monks because it was a good way of providing hearty sustenece while fasting during Lent!

About the goat on the label--it's a reference for the SF locals.

Anchor Steam Brewery is located in a neighborhood of San Francisco called Potrero Hill--previously known as Goat Hill. In the old days the area was mostly a pasture with cattle and goat.

Thank you for the review, I'm definitely going to try to get my hands on a bottle of Anchor Bock. From your description, the darkness and toastyness of the flavor brings to mind Still Nacht, a beer I am rather fond of. It sounds like a good brew to accompany a good book in front of the fireplace.

Sounds interesting, I can almost taste it.

I've tried several flatter, thicker beers and, while I can appreciate the flavours, I still prefer a sparkling lighter lager.

I'll put it on the list as a maybe.

Anchor Brewing are a staple in the US craft beer community. I have had their Anchor Steam Beer and really liked it. I have also heard good things about the Porter. Glad to see you enjoyed the Bock.
