Turkey Flavored Beer, January Beer Poll and Beer Death

Date February 1, 2009

Turkey Flavored Beer?  Wuh?  Huh?  Lets get February started for you with a  review of the odd and wacky things I found in the server logs.  I share with you, The Brew Club January Beer Oddities!

The Brew Club

Turkey Flavored Beer
.  Someone came to The Brew Club looking for Turkey Flavored Beer.  WTF?  Is there such a thing as Turkey Flavored Beer? If there was, I would do some beer reviews for it straight-away!  Why on earth would you want to have beer that tastes like turkey?    I know the people over at Jones Soda made a Turkey and Gravy Soda that you might be able to find at the Jones Soda Store, and the band Primus has an album called Pork Soda, but I’m pretty sure that nobody has produced a Turkey Beer. Maybe there’s an untapped market out there for turkey flavored beer?  Remember folks, you heard it here at The Brew Club first!  Turkey Flavored Beer!

Still lots of interest in Bud Light Lime.  There were questions like – ‘can bud light lime make you gain weight? ‘ I’m thinking Bud Light Lime can not make you do anything.  Or can it?  Still, others wondered ‘why does bud light lime cost so much?’ I’m not really sure, but that IS a good question!

Someone came to The Brew Club looking for “Miller Chill Beer Death”.  This also gets a big WTF from me.  Really.  WTF?  Until I figure it out, I think I’ll let Liz review the Miller Chill!

Another interesting search was about ice melt and beer?  Talk about salt on the rim of your glass!  WTF?

The BEST WTF January beer search was “how to hold a beer while riding a harley.” For some reason, I could imagine our guest-reviewer, Coops wanting to know the answer to this problem, but really, that’s just nuts!  (Actually, Coops would likely want to know ‘how to hold beer in Holden while wearing singlet and thong.)  Coops will understand that (I hope).  Anyway, I’m thinking some dude with one of those choppers, mad tats, patches and leather googling in ‘how to hold a beer while riding a harley’.  Maybe on his iMac?  Just seems weird. At least the search was simply for ‘holding’ the beer and not chugging it, which would be illegal probably.

Speaking of weird…

January’s poll has just closed, and I thought you might find it interesting to summarize the results.

The Brew Club’s Januay’s poll was…

“I’ve already broken my New Year’s resolution”

  • 46% of respondents answered that they had ‘resolved not to make a resolution’.
  • 29% responded that they had indeed already broken their New Year’s Resolution.
  • 25% were still going strong, holding true, at least at the time they voted in the poll!

This confirms that the concept of a New Year’s resolution is rubbish.  75% of the poll-takers either didn’t make a resolution, or had already thrashed it by the time January was done!  I’m one of the people who didn’t even bother to make one, knowing I would certainly be one of the people who broke it in about a week (or less).  How about you?

February’s Poll “I Like Beer Because” is now online.  This month’s poll is inspired by our Australian beer-loving friend Coops (you remember him, right?  Singlet guy?) – hopefully you’ll take some time to participate in the new poll!  Let us know why you like beer!  (You do like beer, don’t you?)

So that’s it!  The Brew Club has a bunch of really cool beer reviews lined up for February, some Czech beers, some British beer reviews, and some American Craft Beers! Hope everyone has a good February!

Maybe ‘harley’ is a person and not a bike? Sort of changes the whole idea, doesn’t it.

As sick as it sounds there is a homebrewing recipe for a chicken beer (hen or chicken, I’m not sure). The beer is related in Charlie Papazian’s The Complete Joy of Homebrewing (pages 95-97 in the third edition). I’m going to take a shot in the dark and guess that this is what the person who posted about the turkey beer might have been talking about. It actually originally comes from a book by Edward Spencer; The Fowling Bowl: A Treatise on Drinks of All Kinds and of All Periods, Interspersed with Sundry Anecdotes and Reminiscences. He goes on to give the recipe.

As I sit here in my, (non-wife beating blue) singlet and STUBBIES, (we really need to get that thong misconception worked out, in Oz thongs go on your feet, dammit), I think back to the purchase of our last Holden. The perfection of its cup holders were 90 percent of the reason to buy it.

Also, choose an automatic gearbox, it’s so much easier to drink and drive.

Food flavoured beer? We’ve been known to refer to our beers as ’steak and eggs in a can’ but we rely on our imagination to fill in the flavours.
