I like a good milk stout. The first I had was probably Mackeson's. Left Hand makes a good one (especially on tap). I would advise against Farson's Lacto. At least I didn't like it. It is interesting to see how brewing terminology is used in different contexts. I've seen Cream Stouts defined in various ways. I know that these contain lactose...I've made a Milk Stout once and it is worth re-visiting. But I've also see the terminology used in quite a different way as well, especially as it relates to "Cream Ales" (including Cream Stouts). In addition to the use of Lactose, there is a lagering process that goes into many beers that are called "cream" this or that. I've heard of both Lager and Ale yeast being used in the process as well. I've even heard of Lager being blended into an Ale in order to create a cream ale, stout, or whatever. Just thought that this would be a poignant addition to the conversation.

Gotta love the Milk Stout. If you have the chance try doing a half and half with the milk stout and the Strawberry Wheat. I'm not a big fan of the Strawberry Wheat and the Milk Stout is good but combined it is something special. Never had a beer like it when they are mixed.

Damn you and your lactose-tolerating ilk...making me jealous that I can't indulge in the various cream stouts out there.

I completely agree that having an outlet encourages a zythophile to be more adventurous in his or her choices. I have been to more pubs and tried more brews in the name of my semi-legitimate hobby than I ever would have without it.

This brew sounds great- I might just have to pop a lactaid and give it a try!
