Personally, I like Rolling rock because it doesn’t have a lot of taste. I like beer with a lot of taste like Sam Adam, but also stuff with not to much and is VERY smooth! So for those that say it has no taste, well you are probably right, but is that a bad thing? However, if you are not in LOVE with hops or like your beer to taste that way you might want to try it to see if you like it.

HAHA the 7up of beers, that’s funny!

@Forlorn – definitely its marketing to keep RR fans loyal, but many folks don’t think its the same as it used to be. Still, it can hit the spot sometimes, and the price is right!

Its too bad, I found out this wasn;t brewed in Old Latrobe. Reading the label I thought it was, but I guess since about 2006 it hasn’t been. I guess they are including the old label in “quotes” as an homage they say… Sounds more like a marketing scheme. Beer brewed in glass lined tanks sounds awesome!

That said, it goes down easy. They have just come out with it in 30pack cans, and its not as smooth but still goes down well. Watery like the original article said, but when my stomach isnt feeling the greatest that day, its like the 7up of beeers…

Used to like this beer college/post-college and have bought it on an off since (which wasn’t yesterday!). Just had one this afternoon and tasteless – like alkaseltzer. That’s why I looked it up; I couldn’t believe this was the same stuff I used to actually enjoy. Skip it – or buy Busch.

@CShoe – Interesting observations. While no longer a beer I drink regularly, I would agree it seemed more enjoyable in the past. I think sometimes, something as simple as different water makes a big difference. Good luck with the home brewing, you’re probably better off anyway!

I would also agree that the taste of it has changed. This beer used to be one of my favorites, I always used to keep it and Sam Adams Boston Lager in stock. I started brewing and greatly reduced my spending on commercial beer. I went three years without having a Rolling Rock, ordered one on tap a few months ago and it came to my table flat and flavorless, I thought perhaps it’s a keg issue. I purchased a case of it not too long ago and either my taste buds have significantly changed or the beer has some changes. I would agree the different brewery plays a role, perhaps Annheauser Busch somehow changed the recipe. It seems lack it’s old bitterness and sweetness. The after taste has changed, it taste like watered down rolling rock.

Scott – no doubt! Down half the bottle and you utter the looong whispered “ahhhhhh!”. the Rock is not my go-to beer by any means but it’s in my rotation on those hot summer days for just that reason!
