I’m assuming at least SOME people tried to visit The Brew Club over the last 12 hours and were shocked to find the site not loading! I was one of them!
Apparently, a nice hacker person was able to penetrate the host that The Brew Club lives on (along with probably hundreds of other websites) and systematically destroyed most of the files. This not only took our site offline, but ALL sites on this particular server. It gets better! The Brew Club’s server was not only server wiped out! Probably 6 or 8 other servers as well got knocked offline!
Needless to say, I almost shat.
12 hours later, except for me having to repost the fabulous strawberry flavored beer reviews from yesterday and losing some interesting comments, damage to this site has, as far as I can tell, been minimal. I’m hoping with this post to check the feed and stuff, but what a ride. I think I’m having a few beers when I get home tonight!
So a reminder to anybody running their own site, make sure you do your backups because you never know!

Ugh, glad to see everything is back up and running. There is nothing worse than that pit you get in your stomach when you realize you are no longer in control of your content.

Aint that the truth!
Somehow I missed this one. I am glad the damage was minimal…I love me some BrewClub. Spammers, Hackers, etc. are one of my biggest irritants. I just don’t understand why anyone would intentionally inflict pain on someone, let alone pain that causes little benefit, other than the hacker learning different code and security.
The word “shat” cracks me up…
