@Reading BierMeister - You're a lucky fella to live in that area, particularly if you love beer. Philly is a great beer town! I'd love to visit the City Tavern - VERY cool stuff!

YARDS Beer, from the Founding Fathers...oh yeah! They are all good. The best place in Philadelphia to enjoy them is at City Tavern as a sampler with the beer braised bratwurst. The food is prepared in Colonial fashion and all was excellent! City Tavern is where Washington, Jefferson and the gang hung out. It is on Second Street near Dock Street ( Oh, another good Philly craft beer, Dock Street).

@Reading BierMeister - Thanks for the report! I'd love to try the Yards ales based on the Jefferson recipe! I think there is one based on a Washington and Franklin recipe as well. Ever try those?

Well, the "Best of Show" was Allentown Brewery's Hopsolutely. I was a well balanced, flavorful beer. Ginnis and Dunn from Scotland was second ( Of the 30/50 tasted) with an ale aged in Bourbon casks. The Pils from Spaten and the Noble Pils from Boston Brew. were good. I didn't taste the Yeungling because they are the local beer. Their Premium Lager is good as well as their Lord Chesterfield Ale. I have't had their porter in a while, but for dark beer, I prefer it to Guiness. Yards Jefferson Ale was tasty.

@reading BierMeister - love the handle! I don't remember Sweaty Betty specifically, but looking back I must have liked it! Strange, I haven't seen it in NJ since I bought it in the Paramus, NJ Whole Foods! A good beer for sure, but I'd say there are a ton of quality West-coast beers beside this one! What were your other faves from the Philly Beer Fest?

Hey , I'm late into this conversation, but I was searching for info on this beer after tasting it at the Philly BeerFest...Which you all should check out. This was one of the top three beers that I tasted at this big fest with 50 Breweries; including Boston Beer, Spaten Munchen, and some other well knowns. This beer was smooth! It was nice to taste a West Coast quality brew.

@Nate - love to do an exchange! Actually, most of the good brewers here have at least one wheat in their lineup - either of the Belgian Weiss style or the Hefeweizen although there are a lot of others available as well. I think we're lucky in that sense here in the States.

Here's what we've reviewed so far!

Ohh a topic that I would love to be able to really partake in. Alas I don't have access to any American Wheats. Bugger!

I have a fairly good source of Wheats here in Germany/Switzerland, but I wont mention those. Maybe we should setup some sort of beer exchange process, could be hard over the pond though? But I digress.

When I was living in Australia there craft beer society was just getting started with some interesting wheats. From memory the Beez Neez and the James Squire Colonial Wheat Beer where good examples of non-German wheats. Although the Squire is no longer in production. But most, if not all other wheats in Aus where from Germany.

Hmm this gets me thinking, just how many companies outside of Germany are brewing wheats and for that matter, good wheats. What is it like for you boys in the US? I remember you guys reviewed a Budweiser wheat or something like that, but do you get many US-based wheat beers there?

Hey Patsy. When I had the Sweaty Betty over the summer, I found it in the Whole Foods in Paramus. That said, I imagine that if you have a Whole Foods nearby, try talking to someone to see if they can order it for you. Good luck!
