Hey Jim, thanks for posting that! Too bad the beer you chose wasn't to your liking, but there's plenty of other Jersey brews to try before giving up! I'm not a big fan of overly hopped beers, so I'd probably not choose Hopnotic anyway, but perhaps something else by Cricket Hill.

This post inspired me to pick up a six pack of Cricket Hill Hopnotic Ale. I hadn't tried anything from them because I didn't know they existed before Scott gave them a shoutout here. Anyway, what a terrible beer! I was really disappointed. What came to mind after the first swig was PBR. Seriously. My wife then tried it and said it reminded her of Red Wolf. Ouch. In the beer's defense, it was a little warm which may had affected its flavor.

Anyway, it was fun trying something from the local guys. I miss the Mountain Valley Brew Pub and their terrific Ruffian Ale. That was a local brew to be proud of.

I really enjoyed this post and will definately give a try to some of the other local breweries here is Jersey. It's importatnt to recognize and support the boys and girls who are working to increase the appreciation and availablity of craft brews here in the Garden State. As always, good work Brew Club.

Cricket Hill makes some nice stuff. Check out the Hopnotic Ale.

I second the call for Boaks. Everything I have tried has been great.

I'm a Jersian too, I think I've reviewed at least 1 Beer from all the NJ breweries except Climax which only comes in keg or growlers (go figure). There are some very good beers in NJ, River Horse is under new ownership and is really starting to crank out some premo beers.

The newest brewery is Boaks Beer, they bottle 3 beers and have 4 available for draft in New Jersey and parts of PA.

There is another brewpub slated to open in Newark in the next couple of months Port City Brewpub (i think is the name). Also another major "Beer Bar" in Montclair next year.

I've heard a lot of Flying Fish before. Being from Philly they are pretty well known. I've also heard about many of those brew pubs as well. I'm going back up for Philly Beer Week next summer and will try to make it out to some of those.
