Following up on our recent post of New Jersey Craft Beer Brewers, I got to
thinking about the New Jersey Beer Blog scene. The Brew Club can’t be alone in Jersey’s cyberspace, right?
Well, as it turns out, we’re not. The Brew Club is in some very good company in regards to beer blogging. We’ve searched far and wide and once per week we’ll introduce to you our fellow Garden State beer bloggers. Hopefully, you’ll check them out as they all have excellent sites.
In addition, if you know of a Jersey-based beer blogger (or you are one) who I’ve missed, please leave a comment below or contact us and we’ll add them!
At first, I was going to simply make one massive post on the subject, but as I went about getting information I discovered that I could not do justice to these other fine beer blogs unless they all had a dedicated post to themselves. And so that’s how this series will go! One post per week dedicated to a different New Jersey beer blog!
First, I’ll briefly tell the story of The Brew Club. We started The Brew Club in April, 2008 as a way to keep track of beer exchanges that a group of us did from time to time at work. Each person in our group of six brought in a different beer, we exchanged beers and then each person went home with a nice beer sampler!
This beer blog quickly evolved from a beer-tracking index to a beer review blog where we try to do a little review post about each beer. Considering that both blogging and beer were (are) mostly new to me, I was learning about both at the same time! Writing about beer has really been the more difficult of the two!
I don’t aspire to be a professional beer critic, but I do hope that the excitement that I experience as I try a new beer for the first time comes through to you, even if I’m not able to explain the subtle nuances of beer flavors and aromas like a pro might be able to. I don’t understand what diacetyl is or why it makes beer taste a certain way (do you?), so I don’t write that way. For the most part, people seem to like how we operate.
I always thought of this beer blog as a site for beer noobs, by beer noobs, but we’ve also had some very good comments and contributions from people who know much more about beer than I do, (like our own Bob the Brit) so its been a lot of fun and a great learning experience as well!
For those of you who have followed along on our little New Jersey cyberspace beer journey, or have participated, asked questions or enlightened us in some way – thank you! We hope that you enjoy our beer review site and feel comfortable enough to leave your own thoughts and comments now and in the future!
So there you have it for our first post on our New Jersey Beer Bloggers Series. Stay tuned for next week’s edition of our Jersey Beer Blogger series where we’ll put the spotlight on our friends! We’ll add to the list below as they get published!

October 21 – Gonzo Gastronomy
October 28 – Beer Stained Letter

As a New Jersey beer blogger, it should come as no surprise that I think this is a great idea!
We’re lucky to live in a state nestled between some of the best beer-making regions in the world. Also, our population density and other demographic mumbo-jumbo make us a desirable market for brewers and distributors to target, so we have access to an amazing selection of really special beers from all over. It’s a great place to live if you love you some beer.
I’m looking forward to the series, Scott.

Cool idea Scott. By the way, what part of Jersey are you from?

Thanks Mike. I thought it was a good idea, and I’ve gotten to know some of my Jersey blogger friends in the process! I’m actually up in Bergen County, not too far from NYC.

Also a jersey blogger, can’t wait to see how you drag the rest of us through the mud…. Just kidding. Great Idea Scott!

You’ll have your time in the spotllight! (Insert evil laugh here) I think it is cool and seriously if you know anybody I missed please let me know!
.-= Scott-TheBrewClub´s last blog ..Local Craft Beer – New Jersey =-.
Although I’m not strictly a beer blog (I cover all gastronomy) I definitely love my brews and write them up from time to time….recently posted a piece on Ommegang and now working on one for Brew Dog, out of Scotland.
Cheers!
Katie
I’ll be interested to see Katie’s Brew Dog review as I have a few of their brews lined up for The Brewclub, including their 18.2% ABV stout!
This geography thing has gotten me thinking, I live in Essex which is often compared with New Jersey (don’t get me started) and while I haven’t encountered any local beer bloggers I do have a few local breweries so I plan to try and visit them as a project for The Brewclub.
.-= Bob the Brit´s last blog ..Bakewell Tart =-.
Bob, I have a feeling that your Essex is better than my Essex (grew up there, so I can say that!) I’m looking forward to both reviews of the Brew Dog stuff from yourself and Katie as well! Brewery tours? Nice!

Fans of NJ beers, check out my new book, Jersey Brew, The Story of Beer in New Jersey
. It is listed for pre-sale at Amazon.com. Cheers!
I’m coming in from colorado. my host wants to know my beer. Ilike an amber/ brown ale any suggs?
I’m coming into N.J.from Colorado, suggs for amber/brown ale?
Kevin – If you’re coming to stay (poor you) I’d sat Troegs Nugget Nectar is a great amber ale, and if you’re lucky you’ll find the Troegs Brown Ale called ‘Rugged Trail’ which is supposed to be discontinued but might still be on the shelves at this point. Troegs is out of PA, but its good beer and easily findable in NJ.

I don’t know if you’re still doing this or plan to resurrect it, but if so, I run a beer review blog and I’m from NJ. The url is http://beerproof.wordpress.com. Cheers!
@Beerproof – Coolness! I’ve been thinking of doing a new series, but I’d need more Jersey beer bloggers I think. Or, maybe not!
