I got one more. This Firday night in Montclair NJ there is an Oktoberfest at one of the old Mansions. the event sold out in 2 days. I'll be there to record a live podcast 4 more fest beers - (Avery, Left Hand, Hacker Pschorr and another one), singing the praises of homebrewing and Simply Beer! I think Brooklyn, Victory, and Ramstein will be pouring beer, plus Nash and Hunterdon will also be pouring some beer.

Haven't had the oktoberfish this year, but I really enjoyed it in years past. Drink Local! BTW new brewery opening in North Bergen in a couple weeks(?), The New Jersey Brewing Company. I'm headed over there next week to talk to them. Maybe next year there will be another local fest beer.

@Bob - thanks for that info! So then the Dusseldorf Alt yeast is indicative of the style here? This could be considered an 'Altbier'? Hmmm.

@Jim - I grabbed this as a single actually and I'm glad did. There's actually a bunch of it around @ the moment - all my favorite places had it. Don't forget my Exit 4 if you find any!!!! :-)

Jersey isn't really big on German tradition, so I can see why the folks at Flying Fish took a little license. I wonder how many local breweries around the country make an Oktoberfest that isn't true to the Marzen style? there are probably more Oktoberfest-inspired beers than ones that are brewed to the letter.

As I'm just getting warmed up to Flying Fish, it sounds like I should pick this one up before it's gone. I already missed Exit 4!

Nice one Scott... Altbiers literally translate as 'old beers'. When the fashion for bottom fermenting lagers swept through Gernamy in the 19th Century the term 'altbier' was coined to describe an old fashioned top fermented ale. Although they are stored for an extended period of cold maturation to mellow their flavour. And yes, Dusseldorf is the spritual home of Altbier.
