Fantasy Football Tribute Beer

Date January 17, 2010

A rare Sunday post here at The Brew Club, but I thought it was important enough to tell you about!

You see, over the course of this NFL season, The Brew Club has had our own Fantasy Football league where the winner gets a nice 22oz of beer from all the losers.

Well, guess who the winner was?

It was me.  AKA ‘The Angry Killahs’!

Tribute Beer2

I attribute my victory to sheer skill, a very scary icon and team name, and of course a tiny bit of luck!  What’s cool is I started the season 1-5.  People laughed at me (I’m used to this) but then I turned it around and pretty much surprised everyone by winning it all.

It was fun too!  You can see that Jerry who I beat for the title managed the G-Men.  The G-Men were definitely heavy favorites, and the fact that I won by only a few points attests to that.  Neil, who was a league powerhouse in the beginning but sank like a lead balloon as the season progressed managed the Social Zeros.  Liz, who started the league (thanks Liz) ended up doing so poorly that I decided not to even mention her team or show her logo.

So, on to the Tribute Beer.  Tribute Beer

Looks like I got Dad’s Little Helper from Rogue, Java Head from Troegs, Arrogant Bastard from Stone, Marin Brewing’s Mount Tam Pale Ale, and Krusovice Czech Lager.  The cool thing is I’ve never had any of these beers so each one will be something new for me!

So, I just wanted to say thanks to everybody who played and I look forward to crushing you again next year!

If you had this batch of beer at you’re place, which one would you have first?  Which should I have last?

I would try the Troegs. Why? PA Loyalty and some previous hits like Mad Elf and Dreamweaver. Cheers!

Thanks Rachel. I was leaning toward that one myself as I’ve been alternating between Winter Ales and Coffee Ales as of late. This brew from Troegs fits in perfectly with my theme!

Congratulations on your extreme victory…your reward is handsome. I have never done fantasy football, as I have only watched a couple of games in my life. I might try if the winner got all that beer, and the loser really doesn’t have to fork over a ton if they loose.

I’m interested in what you think of the Krusovice Czech Lager.

Thanks Nate. That was the cool thing about it. Its a decent haul, and if you lose it’s not a big deal really. It was fun. I’m not much of a football fan myself, and it took me a good 5 games to figure it out but then as they say, the rest is history!

I’m curious about the Czech Lager as well. As we know, they make some good lagers. Never heard of this one though. Maybe Bob has.

Maybe next year you could organize a fantasy football amongst beer bloggers…
    I’d get in on that!

I’d probably start with the Java Head. I’m into Coffee Porters right now, and have a Lagunitas CappuccinoStout at home, as well as a coffee porter from England I’m reviewing later this week. Picked up a second one because the first was so tasty! BTW the Arrogant Bastard is pretty hoppy. Lots of IBUs in there!

Thanks Don. Knowing that’ the Arrogant Bastars will likely get bumped down the list a bit – but I’ll get to it. Looking forward to your coffee porter reviews. I’m on a bit of a coffee porter kick myself!
