@Liz, not a problem. I think you hit it in your comment - football isn't for everybody, but if you WANT to learn about the game, it helps to know whats going on. I think your post helps in that regard even though you are also a loser. :-)

I think the point of your post is that there are those women who WANT to get more involved, and those who have no interest in learning about it. Some will seek out information, some could care less. I directed people to your post from the former camp as those from the later just aren't going to care.

@Rachel - I'm sure your husband would love to go for a Sunday of shoe shopping and manicures as a trade off! I think the idea is that some women want to learn about football for whatever reason, and it shouldn't be approached as a reciprocal torture event!

Scott - Thanks for showing the Sports Bra Reports some love on this post. I think that football like beer, the more you know about and understand it - the more you will love it. And of course it's not going to be for everyone - but if people give it a chance maybe they'll like it, maybe they won't. This concept applies to everything.

That's why I did the post on the Super Bowl 101 for ladies - b/c maybe they want to give it a try and be informed and hopefully the brief post will help them!

So - Thanks again for the post, much appreciated even though you're still a loser :-P ... Everyone out there I hope you enjoy the super bowl and some good beer... Salud!

I actually read the novel The Thornbirds. Somber is a good word for it. As for women and beer, honestly, if it wasn't for my husband, I would have never tried beer other than the typical lager or light beer. I can watch a football game too but is it something I love to do? Not really. Maybe there can be some trade off: a Sunday of beer drinking and football swapped for a Saturday of shoe shopping/manicures?

Thanks Rachel, I'll have to check it out. I thought the Thornbirds mention would add some extra somberness to the situation! I think even I might be found switching between the Super Bowl and True Blood! (if I had cable)

Again, I'm not saying women don't like beer, or don't have the capacity to enjoy good beer. But, go to any beer event and its mostly guys. Not all guys, but mostly. Just sayin'.

Interesting perspective, Scott. I definitely agree with your opinion that the game is more enjoyable when you know what's going on. As for watching TV in the other room, maybe True Blood or Big Love. The Thornbirds is so 80s. As for women and beer, you obviously haven't read my Tetley's English Ale review.

Seriously, this was a fun post. I always like a good Mars/Venus discussion.

Lisa, thanks for the comment! I would agree about the ingrained link between crap beer and football, but that doesn't mean that people can't choose to educate themselves about better beer and make better choices when watching the game. You certainly won't find me drinking a Coors Lite during the game.

I'm not sure that I would consider soccer a more exciting sport. 90 minutes and you get one or two goals? That's not boring? Still, that's not really the point of my post. I'm trying to help more women understand football, that's all.

Maybe you should read Liz's post and take some time to understand the game as well. Maybe you would see its more than a bunch of 'overweight men standing around'. It really is a great sport. Cheers!

We women who drink good beer tend to also follow real sports, like soccer - (American) football is little more than overweight men in spandex standing around, which is likely why the rest of the world does not follow it. I've seen a more direct correlation between men who watch (American) football and the consumption of crap beer - we females have taste and avoid both bad beer and boring sports.
