I confess @Royce I've never visited Northern Ireland - and breweries are few on the ground there, but I have worked on the Isle of Man, and it has its charms - including the Fairy Bridge' where even hard-bitten taxi drivers acknowledge the fairies as they cross. The other breweries I'm aware of are Bushy's and Old Laxey, but I haven't yet found examples of their brews.

What would probably be more rewarding would be a stay in Liverpool which boasts about a dozen breweries including Cains, and then up to the Lake District which has beautiful scenery and is home to around twenty breweries and brewpubs.

I would suggest that that would keep a drinker occupied for a nice trip.

Of course you could then drive over to Yorkshire, home of Timothy Taylors, Sam Smiths, Black Sheep and Theakstons - almost a pilgrimage!

I'd like to try both of these beers. You make the 1907 in particular sound like a really nice expression of the summer ale style.

I'd love the visit the Isle of Man on my next visit to the UK. Maybe a Northern Ireland/Isle of Man/Highlands combo trip. A quick Wikipedia view reveals that there are 80,000 residents on the Isle of Man. Seems like a place with a lot of culture and history for only 80,000 residents.

Any other Manx brewers I can visit and drink when I'm there?

@scott, as you say it's not often a beer wrong foots you. I actually made a point of checking a couple of other review sites to make sure I hadn't got a mislabelled bottle.

And yes, it's only brewed on the Isle of Man, but is becoming available at a few places here on 'the mainland' and well regarded.

Nice Bob. The Mac Lir in particular sounds very interesting. A bit of a twist on what you're expecting from a beer keeps up on our toes! Cool too that they would hook you up with some samples. I'm assuming this beer is not licensed and is only brewed on the Isle?
