I like the winter – I really do. But winters can get rough in New Jersey too, and 2010 was a perfect example with some of our biggest snowstorms ever. (Well, at least since the last ice-age or since the earth was on a different axis and our part of the planet was where Antarctica is – I bet we had more snow then, but who’s counting?)
Its not the snow, or lack thereof that gets me. Its really more the stark contrast that we see going from December, which can also be cold and snowy, but its chock-full of fun holidays and the associated food and beer!
We go from a season that makes me feel like this…
to a time that makes me feel like this…
The streets are gray, the cars are gray, the skies are seemingly always gray. And what’s worse is that the blah grayness sticks around until the daffodils start to bloom in late March!
I’m big on the seasonal beers. But for me, I think the winter beers are the least exciting of the bunch. There are some really good ones like the Long Trail Winter White (discontinued, I think, booo!), and I enjoyed the St. Peter’s Winter Ale, but in general, I find that the Winter Ales aren’t really able to help get me excited about the season like the other seasonal beers seem to do.
Is it too soon for me to suffer from a lack of sunlight and beer excitement?
What about you? What gets you through the season?
That is all.
