Breckenridge Agave Wheat

Date June 29, 2011

Breckenridge Agave Wheat is a beer that I had high hopes for, especially after tasting the Breckenridge Brewery Oatmeal Stout, and to a lesser extent their Vanilla Porter.  Its a wheat beer, which I tend to like, and, of course, who can resist Agave?  (Not even sure what it is really.)  Oh, here it is!

Breckenridge Agave WheatUnfortunately for me, I found Breckenridge Agave Wheat to be thin, and actually it barely had any taste at all.

It was the most watery-tasting beer I’ve had in quite awhile, and I found myself rather disappointed by it.

Fortunately for me, I had only purchased a single bottle to sample, and wasn’t  stuck with a whole six-pack that would likely collect dust in the basement!

I suppose this would be a nice ‘lawnmower beer‘.  You know, the type of beer you’re craving to quench your thirst instead of an actual hydrating beverage like water?  This could work.

I know its harsh, but I can’t really recommend this beer!
Rating: ★½☆☆☆

I can, however, recommend the hilarious Breckenridge Brewing TV commercials which poke fun at the local big-brewer competition.

Ah well, at least you didn’t buy a six pack, Scott!

I was in the town of Tequila a few years ago, those guys really know things to do with Agave, including – once you’ve processed the agave plant and squeezed the appropriate juices from it, you’re left with very tough fibres.

I have a tablecloth woven from Agave fibres, but only because my garden doesn’t have any suitable hanging points for a hammock.

And as for the Breckenridge commercial, I reckon they missed a trick – their “proprietary way to tell if it’s cold” is, of course, digital!

    LOL! It certainly is digital!

Dang, what a disappointment. Isn’t Agave supposed to be something that is kind of sweet? I don’t really know. Anyway, I had been meaning to pick this up- only a bottle though in a make-your-own 6 pk. I usually like Great Divide and Flying Dog so I thought that another Colorado brewery would be worth a shot too. Thanks for the info, might still get it just to try it out.

@Alyssa. Yeah, I’d stick with one bottle on this one. Who knows though, I imagine people do like it so maybe you will?
