Last weekend I had the good fortune of having some friends over to catch up on things. That in itself is always a good thing, but I was even happier to see them when they had this interesting selection of beers with them!
My friends are into good beer, and as you can see from the picture I snapped, they made some very good choices when they stopped at the local Total Wine before coming over! But one beer troubled me a bit though, and I wonder if you can spot it in the mix!
For me, it was the MGD 64 Lemonade that got me scratching my head. Why? Here we have a nice mix of German wheat beers (Hopfen-Weisse, mmmmmm), canned chocholate goodness, a Belgian Cherry Lambic, and then MGD 64? What gives?
Usually, I don’t look a gift horse in the mouth, but I asked my friends why they decided to buy a single of this beer considering their other selections. They simply said, “We wanted to try it!”
And there you have it. I can appreciate their taste in beer and I can also appreciate their lack of beer snobbery which I was reminded is easy to slip into.
What do you think?

Anybody that turns up at my place with a beer in their hand is welcome.
I’d rather have an average beer with a good friend than a good beer alone.
I’m with Bob, if you show up at my house with a beer in your hand you are always welcome. I also appreciate when people bring over something that I wouldn’t normally buy, it gives me a chance to try something new.
Bob/Nate. Its funny how seldom I’ve gotten to share a good beer lately (or any beer) with friends. So much is going on in my world that most of the time, I’m cracking something open late at night when time permits. This visit was very welcome, and I didn’t expect the beer which made it so much better! (BTW, the MGD 64 was universally loathed.)
BTW, looks like I was ‘lucky’ enough to get to try the MGD 64 Lemonade. Seems Miller Coors just pulled the plug on it after only a couple of months.

My brother is on a low carb diet and the only beer in his house is MGD 64. So it’s strictly BMOB when I visit, “Bring My Own Beer.” I’ve actually never tried an MGD 64 before. If someone were to bring it to my house, like Bob and Nate commented, I’d be happy to try it and spend time with the friend. Cheers!
@Lee – After having tried the beer, I can honestly say I miss the point. If I were on a low-carb diet, I’d likely just skip beer if MGD 64 was the only option I think. It was simply horrible. (It was fun to share the disgust with friends though!)
