Not too long ago, we had a neat beer review by Bob the Brit where he tried the Wells & Young Mongoose Lager along with some Indian food.

Bob wondered why lagers, even though great with Indian food, were always the standard beer pairing? Why not offer something a little hoppier? Something like an IPA?
I know for me, whenever I’m having spicy Tex-Mex or Indian food, my beer preference is IPA, American Pale Ale (APA), and then Lagers in that order.
What about you? What beer do you crave with Indian food? Take the quick poll and/or leave a comment below!

If I only liked Indian food…..
I think I’d go IPA, Lager and then APA in that order. It’s good for tex-mex!
@Meile – Its an acquired taste, but once its acquired – watch out!
Unfortunately all the local Indian restaurants to me only stock Lager… usually Cobra or Kingfisher (brewed under licence by Shepherd Neame).
I have started to enjoy IPA with a takeaway Indian, and don’t often cook Tex-Mex. In my experience Tex-Mex restaurants in the UK tend to stock mediocre US beers served chilled to within an inch of their life. My preferred Tex-Mex beer is an Anchor Steam, or something from Sierra Nevada – but we don’t get many of those over here.
@Bob – Tex-Mex here is the States is usually also pared with ice-cold lagers. Mostly Dos XX, Corona, or some other Mexican lager with little character. I’ve found that a few places are starting to carry craft American Pale Ales, and many allow one to bring their own beer.
