I’m not one to really “Toot my own horn” (maybe yours perhaps) but this little bit of info really made my day. Check it out! Its nothing official I guess, but the data works out somehow! It turns out that more than three people DO read The Brew Club!
I recently came across a site run by a fella named Sol called Bierfesten. It seems Sol is interested in gathering data and examining various trends in the world of Craft Beer. Well, some of the trends that Sol has examined are the popularity of beer websites. From what I can tell, Sol uses information from Alexa to compile his lists, but he might have access to other data as well, who knows…
Anyway, I was ABSOLUTELY FLOORED to go through some of the lists to find this humble site amongst some real beer-world giants! (Can I emphasized FLOORED any more?)
Check it out!
The Top 30 Beer websites for August 2011 has a lot of interesting information, and I like how Sol is breaking it down. Its also very interesting to see where people are going when they want to waste spend time reading about beer.
While we did not make his list of the Top 30 Global Beer Websites, we DID make the list for the Top 30 US Beer Websites! Looks like we were #21 ahead of sites like Budweiser.com, SierraNevada.com and BrooklynBrewery.com!
Not stopping there, it seems we trap our visitors with witty and compelling content as well! As far as the Top Beer Websites based on time wasted spent, it seems we ranked # 3 well ahead of powerhouses like Nigeria Breweries, but also ahead of little known sites like Rate Beer and Beer Advocate? Ohhhh kaaaay? Huh.
Sol also took his research one step further. He compiled another Top 30 list, but this one excluded the “Large Macro” sites that feature big ad budgets and scantily-clad women. Strangely enough, TheBrewClub.com just squeaked in at #24, which is still pretty cool IMHO.
So, I’m encouraged that this site is something of a destination for people, (or slow site-scraping bots) and I hope that it becomes moreso in the future. In that regard, this site would not be anything if it weren’t for the contributions of beer geeks like Bob the Brit and Lee Salawich, and other beer blogger friends, guest posters, commenters and contributors. It wouldn’t be much to look at if it weren’t for you, the visitors who stops in to comment, educate, correct, criticize, suggest, and sometimes praise.
As we used to say, ‘its all about the beer’, but its all about you too. Thanks for being a part of it all!

Very cool Scott. Congrats!
Good deal Scott! I suppose we will now have to bow or something every time we see you?
It’s nice to know that people actually read this stuff, and that those hours spent punishing our livers aren’t wholly in vain!
@Mike – Thanks. Again, its nothing formal, but this guy’s list is a nice shot in the arm regardless.
@Don – You already do. I suppose you could take the groveling to a new level, but I’m OK with where its at now.
@Bob – Me too. I mean, its fun anyway, but knowing someone else is reading is nice too! And thanks for your contributions, you’re a big part of what makes this place worth visiting.
Wow, that is awesome, I’d like to say it’s due to repeated mention on the happy time magic hour podcast, but looking at our number I have to say it’s probably not the reason.
It must be the consistant quality you guys put out here.
Congrats Guys
@Wolfman-K LOL! I’m sure it’s a little of everything, but thanks for your support and contributions over the years too!
Awesome news guys. It is nice to see hard work pay off.
Scott, Congratulations!! I come to your site because I always enjoy your slant on things. Keep up the good work!!
@Nate- It certainly is! And thanks for being a regular around here!
@Mike-T.S.B.B. – Thanks. Glad to have you as a visitor AND a contributor!
Great stuff Scott and yeah web 2,0 content is key which your site has. I actually dont use any of the websites listed so quite impartial its the data that I love. Cheers sol
@Sol – Thanks again for compiling it! Hopefully, we’re consistent though. One month is cool, but a string of months would be cooler! Cheers!
