Well, here is is JUST turning Springtime and low-and-behold, what do I see stacked up in the Beer store but Summer beers?
Of course, I had to buy it, (I like the Sam Adams variety packs) but it still seemed very odd to me to see Summer beers being promoted in March. As I thought about it, there seemed to be a trend for the Sam Adams seasonals to hit the shelves long before the actual season began. What’s with that?
I remember seeing Octoberfest in August.
I remember seeing a 12 packs of the Winter Lager in October.
Their new Spring Seasonal “Alpine Srping” appeared in February if I recall correctly.
And now their Summer ales are available in March?
I’m sure it has something to do with marketing. Hey, it got me to crack open my wallet and buy, so perhaps they are on to something? I thought I read someplace that when it comes to seasonal beers, the one people buy first it the one they tend to buy for the rest of the season. If that’s true, (I’ll look for that report) then it makes perfect sense from a marketing sense, but it sure throws off my sense of seasons!
Much like seeing Christmas decorations going up in stores before Halloween is even over, I’d rather see Summer beers in Summer.
What about you?
