I was trying to come up with a title for this post that was a little juicier than just “Vermont Craft Beer Shops that Rock”, but after about 10 seconds it seemed to be just fine.
Because the two Vermont craft beer shops I’m going to tell you about do, in fact, rock!
The first one is in Bennington, Vermont and is called the Smoker’s Den and Discount Beverage Center (map). Its a shame that for all of the years I’ve been going to Vermont, this was the first time I visited this place, but I assure you it’ll not be the last!
They had an awesome stock of local craft beers and those from around the country. Most impressive to me, they had a very respectable stock of Imported beers as well, many of them (like the Meantime) high-quality British ales that Bob the Brit has been writing so highly of here. (I can’t even find that here in New Jersey!)
The staff was friendly, and one fellow (I didn’t get his name) was very knowledgeable as I overheard some of his conversations with other customers. In addition, they seem to have a nice stock of tobacco products and porn magazines so there’s just about something for everyone at this little place. Definitely check it out if you’re in the Bennington, VT area.

The second place I stopped in was a little further north in Manchester, Vermont. This place is called Manchester Discount Beverages. (website) Here, I picked up a sampler of Wolaver’s Fall variety pack, and they had different brewery glasses including the uber-cool Sam Adams glass I got for two bucks!
This place was cool because when I visited, I was on the cusp of turning 41 and the nice lady at the register proofed me! How sweet!
They don’t have quite the selection that the Beverage Den in Bennington has, but they aren’t slouches either. For that neck of the woods, Manchester Discount Beverages should be able to scratch any itch you may have.
They had a good selection of regional New England beers from the usual suspects like Wolaver’s, Otter Creek, Long Trail, Harpoon and Sam Adams, plus, they had a very interesting selection of Imported beers. Check out their stock!

So, between these two places, the craft beer fan can do quite will in the sparsely-populated but beautiful Vermont. Make sure you pay a visit if you’re in the area, and let them know the 41 year-old from New Jersey who looks 18 sent ya!
