Maybe you recall that recently I posted a slightly silly solution for those beer geeks among us who are also hoarders and simply can not get out to buy good beer.
What’s the perfect solution for Beer Geek Hoarders’?
Sign up for one of the beer-of-the-month services! At least the beer gets to your door – but its still up to you to bring it into the house!
Recently, the people at “The Original” Craft Beer Club [affiliate link] hooked me up with a sample for me to write about, and I explained that for the most part, it was a good service that seemed to do what it claimed. 12 beers to your door each month.
Well, shipment #2 showed up, and I thought I’d write about that too!
As expected, the packaging is superb for shipping this type of product. All of the bottles survived the UPS delivery experience unscratched.
Of course, the free beernuts, sampling glasses and bottle opener are not included beyond the initial shipment – but that’s not what we’re concerned with now are we?
So how’s the beer, man?
Not bad, but not awesome – but that’s because of personal preference, which, in this case, is the only preference that matters! Still, I got beers I’ve never tried before from breweries I’ve never tried before. Very cool!
In this delivery, I got…
From Idaho’s Grand Teton Brewing Company (Brewery Website)
- Bitch Creek ESB – This ‘Extra Special Brown’ is not for the timid warns the brewer. Not being a big fan of brown ales, they should also warn that its not for non-brown ale fans.
- Howling Wolf Weisse Bier – I dig Hefeweizens and good domestics are hard to find. This one was pretty good, but I’ve had better.
From Maine’s Casco Bay Brewing Comany (Brewery Info)
- Riptide Red Ale – This is their take on an Irish Red, not an American Red (which I don’t care for – sorry America)
- Carrabassett Pale Ale – Although from Maine, according to their website, this American Pale Ale is West-Coast style. To me, it was not that hoppy, and more akin to an English Pale Ale. Hmmmm. Anyway, its their Flagship beer, and my favorite of the batch.
Overall I’m happy to have tried four new beers for the first time, even though none of them knocked me over with indescribable joy, none of them were even close to drainpours either.
I was also able to give some beer away to former Brew Clubber Neil to enjoy which made made it all the better!
