Well, here it is! While its not a Summer Ale per-se, the Sam Adams Whitewater IPA is my go-to beer this Summer. It even dislodged my go-to Summer beer for the past few years, Sam Adams Summer Ale.
Its a really interesting brew. Its essentially a Belgian Witbier which is a nice choice for Summer anyway, and then the freaks at Sam Adams made some hybrid magic and bonded it with some nice, hoppy, IPA characteristics. If that weren’t enough, there’s a noticeable apricot flavor too.
Sound weird? Well, it might, but I have to say this beer really works. The flavors blend so nicely its not easy to call it an IPA, or a Wit. Its truly a blend.
Here’s what the Sam Adams people say about it…
The unfiltered beer is brewed with our proprietary blend of pale malts and white wheat to create a crisp base onto which we layer spice notes from orange peel and coriander, traditional white ale spices, and an intense piney, citrusy hop character from Australian and American hops. The subtle addition of apricots balances out the bitterness of the hops and adds a slight sweetness to the beer.
Yeah, that’s sort of what I said!
Anyway, if you’re looking for something new this summer, give the Sam Adams Whitewater IPA a try. I’ve seen it in 6-packs, and its also part of the “Summer Styles” variety pack.
4/5 stars from me!
