I continued north on the Great River Road to La Crosse, before heading east. One final stop for The Brew Club, and another beer “Mecca” had to be visited, the World’s Largest Six Pack and King Gambrinus statue located at the City Brewing Company.
While the original Old Style six pack has been painted over and covered with vinyl La Crosse Lager “labels,” the tanks are part of the brewery so are full of beer!
Gambrinus is credited as being the “King of Beer” (sorry, Budweiser) so I had to pay homage to this legendary hero. The original G. Heileman Brewing Company facility is incorporated into City Brewing’s digs. The brewery was certainly in production when I stopped by. I love the smell of a brewery in the morning! I didn’t have time for a tour, just a brief photo stop before the journey continued. (Pictures below)
Three very different and unique facilities all within a few hours drive of one another, and all definitely worth visiting.
New Glarus, Potosi Brewing and City Brewing in La crosse.
There are also quite a few other breweries and brewpubs in the area, such as Capital Brewery in Middleton and the Grumpy Troll in New Horeb. Too many beers, too little time!
