Well, the summer is drawing to a close, and here in Blighty it’s been a cracker, both weather-wise and, for me at least, beer-wise.
The end of August also marks the passing of Michael Jackson (The Beer Hunter), the man most acknowledged as the father of the ‘Beer Renaissance’. He passed away six years ago today (August 30th).
Michael was also one of the founders of the British Guild of Beer Writers who celebrated their 25th Anniversary this month, I was pleased to finally meet Roger Protz at the anniversary bash, he is acknowledged as the greatest living beer writer and has edited CAMRA’s ‘Good Beer Guide’ for countless years.
Here at The Brew Club, we have a tradition of toasting Michael Jackson’s life with a drink, a tradition that might even tempt Scott out of his abstinence.
I’ve found a couple of bottles of Sam Smiths Yorkshire ‘Stingo’; I will be tasting that for ‘The Brewclub’ and drinking the health of one of the nicest and most knowledgeable drinkers I’ve ever had the pleasure to meet.
And if you’re lucky enough to be close to a screening, check out ‘Beer Hunter The Movie’ – I have the DVD on order.
