Here it is the Summer winding down on the calendar, and I’m just wondering. What’s been your favorite warm/hot weather beer this Summer?
Did you have a favorite beer style that you gravitated toward when the temperature rose, or perhaps a specific beer?
In my pre-enlightenment days, my favorite warm weather beer was Rolling Rock! Nowadays, I think I have four beer styles that I like to kick back with – and a surprising dark-horse Summer beer style as well!
Belgian White. Light and spicy, I think this beer really hits the spot with hints of coriander and orange. My suggestion? Long Trail Belgian White.
Hefeweisen. Similar to the Belgian White, but this wheat beer sports nice banana and clove action in the taste. Great for summer! For me, its hard to beat Sierra Nevada’s Kellerweis, but the classic Germans will do nicely as well.
American Pale Ale. (APA) Great with spicy foods like Tex-Mex or Indian, a nice Pale Ale like the one from Sierra Nevada works wonders on a Summer day.
American IPA. Its the Big Brother of the APA and works just as well with spicy foods or hot weather. This year, I’m enjoying the Sam Adams Latitude 48 IPA and the 90 Minute IPA from Dogfish Head which is pretty darn good.
Strangely enough though, this Summer I’ve found myself enjoying a lot of Imperial Stouts! Like the American IPA, its a beer style I used to shy away from – a little too big for my taste. But this year, something clicked for me. Sam Smith’s and Sam Adams Imperial Stouts, Victory’s Storm King and Stone’s Russian Imperial Stout have been in the regular rotation along with my aforementioned Summer favorites.
So far, its been a good Summer for beer! What about you?
