I suppose it’s inevitable, given the number of brews I enjoy each year for ‘The Brewclub’ – I’ve reviewed more than three hundred brews (and counting) – that a few brews in any large mixed case will be old friends.
I first encountered Santa Paws last year, when Brewdog launched it. At that time I gave it three Brewclub Stars, saying “it’s a brew that does what it sets out to, but no more“.
So, let’s revisit it.
The first thing I noticed, and I know it’s sad, but Brewdog have now embossed their crest on the neck of the bottle. Nice touch and as a shareholder, I approve.
It still pours as dark as a December night, with a mocha coffee nose.
And the flavour is still as complex as it ever was, dark fruits, deep smokey, chocolatey roast coffee.
In the context of this Christmas advent calendar I’m upgrading this by half a Brewclub star, it’s a good prezzy wrapping brew.
