It’s a very special brew, essentially Trappist but quintessentially English, I really like it.

It’s a good beer, and good approximation of a Doppelbock, but it’s not quite the triumph that Thornbridge’s Biere de Garde – Jehanne – was. It’s reminded me to keep an eye out for Aventinus next time I visit a brewmonger.
Hotel Chocolat Dark Cocoa Beer 4.75% ABV
May 9, 2016
Here’s a brew that came out of left field, a porter brewed by ‘The Brew Shed’ microbrewery in Bury St Edmunds (home of Greene King) for Hotel Chocolat, an up-market chain of Chocolate boutiques.
De Molen Hamer & Sikkel Porter 5.2% ABV
April 25, 2016
It boasts Munich, Choco, Brown and Oatmeal malts, with Saaz and Chinook hops. An interesting blend which the brewery suggests gives “a mainly roasted, malty character. Giving it chocolate, coffee and wood flavours finishing in a soft but intense bitterness.” Sounds like my kind of porter.
Bob the Brit’s beers of 2015

Anyway, onto my favourite beers of what has frankly been a so-so year here at The Brewclub, I’ve reviewed a higher than average range of two and three star beers, but there have been some very, very, good ‘uns.
